Oatmeal Chocolate Chippers

Yield: 6 dozen cookies


1 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 ea eggs
2 cups flour, sifted
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
2 cups quick oats
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup walnuts, coarsely chopped (optional)


  1. Cream shortening and sugars thoroughly
  2. Add eggs and beat well
  3. Sift together flour, salt, and soda
  4. Add to creamed mixture, mixing well
  5. Stir in oats, nuts, and chocolate chips
  6. Chill
  7. Take a small bowl and put some sugar in it -- maybe about 1/3 cup
  8. Shape dough into 1 inch balls, place on ungreased cookie sheet
  9. Flatten with bottom of glass dipped in the sugar
  10. Bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes
